better direction

I have been doing more work on simplifying illustrations etc and am concerned about the images not being coherent and so i have decided to change my idea a little. It still is in keeping with the eco-friendly vibe but a more sophisticated take on the whole topic. I am now looking at graphic design as an eco system. The outcome will still be illustrative but in a more witty/observational way. i have seen some beautiful examples of simplistic beautifully made books that have great impact. I think that by taking an observational view on graphics as an eco system itself i will be able to produce much better-more flowing and purposeful images. They will be made up of the different parts to an eco system-the organisms (designers) The issues they face-inspiration,ideas,practise etc and their environment-the city. The images i have already made will not go to waste either as i want a 'hidden' message within these images about the original issues. Stylistic zone will be simplistic-stark understated colours etc...

Hi Rachael

Great illustrations! They are dark and beautiful at the same time. So understand your now using these illustrations to narrate your original topics? I think its a really nice approach and a thoughtful idea. Good luck

Hi Rachel! I agree with aimmee and also adore the style of these illustrations. They remind me of Tim Burton's hand illustrations that he draws to go with these weird stories in books such as 'The melancholy death of the oyster boy'. Very wonderful and surreal! I find the fact that you want to include 'hidden' messages within your work very intriguing too! Look forward to finding them. x

Once again, really nice illustrations rachel! They remind me of spanish painter Goya using same style to satirize Spanish society on his time.
I think this links really well with what you are doing so i don't know if you already had this in mind or you just coincide with a great artist!?
Anyway looks very good.

Hey Rachel,
I have to also say that I think your illustrations are great, you have developed a clear style which is very contemporary. Can't wait to see what the final book will look like, you should definatly stick with the hand rendered effect throughout the book.
